What is cholecalciferol (vitamin D3)?
Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is a form of vitamin D that helps the body absorb calcium for bone health. It is used as a dietary supplement for people who do not get enough vitamin D from their diet or sunlight.
Possible side effects
- Many people have no side effects or only minor side effects.
- Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include rash, hives, itching, runny nose, fever, chills, headache, muscle ache, shortness of breath, coughing, tightness in the throat, dizziness, low blood pressure, pain in the chest, side, or back, or swelling of the face or neck.
- Report any symptoms of an allergic reaction to your care provider or pharmacist.
Tips for patients and families
- Discuss all questions and instructions with your doctor or pharmacist.
- This medicine can be taken with or without food.
- Chewables: Have your child chew or crush well before swallowing. Do not swallow chewables whole.
- Liquid: Use the measuring device that comes with the medicine. The liquid can be added to a small amount of water, juice, or formula just before taking.
- Tablets or capsules: Some strengths are not taken every day. Talk with your child's doctor or pharmacist if you have dosing questions.
- If a dose is missed and it is near the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not give 2 doses at the same time.
- Store at room temperature.
